  • Cardiac pharmacology. Electrophysiological mechanisms involved in cardiac arrhythmias. Endogenous and pharmacological regulation of cardiac ion channels.
  • Genetic basis of arrhythmias and of drug-induced arrhythmias.
  • Vascular pharmacology. Signalling pathways involved in the origin of and target organ damage produced by pulmonary and systemic hypertension. Endogenous and pharmacological regulation of ion channels in vascular smooth muscle cells.
  • Preclinical assessment of new cardiovascular drugs.
  • Nutrients with a pharmacological impact and potential health benefits

A variety of approaches are used in developing these research lines, including the recording of action potentials (glass microelectrodes), ion currents (patch-clamp), contractile activity, and changes in intracellular calcium concentration, and techniques from cell biology (western blot), immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, and ion channel modelling.
